Daddy's Little Girl
By Mandie Dietz
(Contact: DaddysLittleGrI@aol.com)

A little girl full of a bunch of dreams.
Not worrying whether she's dirty or clean.

Looking up to her dad who knows best.
She would never even think of him less.

She's "Daddy's Little Girl" and loves it that way.
He watches her grow day by day.

She loves her mommy, too,
But mom doesn't let her do everything she wants to do.

It's time to go to school.
She has fun and listens to all the rules.

A little girl with no worries and a perfect life.
Not having to make one sacrifice.

But as she grows up problems begin.
And no matter what she feels she cannot win.

Fights with friends and school work's tough.
But she's had enough.

She puts the pieces of her life back together.
And realizes she will not be that little girl forever.

She still has her mom and dad,
And this makes her very glad.

Her friends are there again,
And now she knows she can win.

She's starting high school, the best years,
So excited without a fear.

She has so much fun with friends and boys,
And her and the girls make so much noise.

Her dad drives her to school everyday.
When he drops her off "I LOVE YOU" are the last words they say.

Her dad watches her walk out the door to the dance.
He's so proud and knows she'll take every chance.

The year's beginning to end,
And it's time for the summer to begin.

Her dad is getting very sick,
And she's worried this is something the doctors cannot fix.

She takes care of him the best she can,
And those little girl's hands are washing away in the sand.

The summer's about to draw near.
She's excited and has no fear.

But her dad is getting weak.
Her dad is fighting but this something he cannot beat.

She goes to the hospital and is told her dad died.
She burst out in tears and asks god "WHY?"

"Why did you take my daddy away?"
"Could you just have waited another day?"

"I didn't even get to say goodbye."
"A part of me also died."

"But what can I do now?"
"Just prove I'll be the best I can be and keep that vow."

He watches her now from above,
And now he sees all her love.

Living with the fact her dad was gone
was the hardest thing she could ever do.
But she had to grow up
from being "Daddy's little girl" too.

She'll always be "Daddy's little girl" in her mind,
Because her daddy was one-of-a-kind.

And the love for him will never stop,
And the bond they had will never be forgot.

But now she's living through life,
And having a big sacrafice.

She remembers every moment spent with her dad,
And even at the times it got really bad.

It was great because she was with him,
And "I love you" is the message she will always send.....

This poem is about my dad, the best man in the world in my eyes. Take the time to get to know your parents while they're here and love them for who they are. Trust me, you'll miss them when they're gone. I had the great gift of being close to my dad, other than some people I know. Even if you think you hate your parent for some apparent reason you should take the time to find out who they are, because I couldn't even imagine the regret I'd have of not knowing my dad and when your loved one is gone, there is nothing you can do about it. So do something now.....
