The Greatest Gift
By Cierra Brown
(Contact: dimples@saturnnet.com)
This is a poem to the woman
Who gave me the greatest gift ever:
The gift of life.
I love you more than you could ever know.
Even though I have never seen your beautiful face,
Or the way you brush your hair.
Nor have I felt your soft hands upon my cheek
Wiping away my tears.
But I still love you.
I still love you because you gave me something,
A gift more precious than diamonds or gold.
You gave me my life and a chance to live it.
You sacrificed a part of you
In order to give me this gift.
And what you did gave you more pain
Then most people ever have to endure.
You gave up your child
To fulfill another couple's dream.
Though I have not met you,
And I may never,
I still love you.
And I will never stop loving you,
For you gave me the greatest gift there is to give:
My life and a chance to live.
