Mother
By Brittney Prater
I was with you for some time
In a dark and lonely world.
I never once felt loved by you.
You never seemed to care.
I couldn't really talk to you.
You never understood.
You hurt my feelings,
And I would cry.
I couldn't do right for you
No matter how hard I'd try.
As days went by
I began to see
I wasn't number one,
I was your last priority.
Well I've moved on,
Away from your dark and lonely world.
I've learned that there really are
People out there who care.
People who don't misjudge me,
But listen to what I have to say.
Now that I've found my happy place
In this bright and loving world,
I know that I can do well in life
'Cuz of the love that's now shown.
Now that I've found my happy place
I wish you well,
And if you're lucky- If it's not too late,
Maybe you too will find that happy place.
But you must learn to love,
And please start with yourself.
