My Daddy
By Amy Zaborowski
(Contact: LilAmy4JC@aol.com)
I'm sitting here, and it is graduation.
Everyone is happy and can't wait to have their fun.
But I truly feel that I am the only one.
I'm the only one who feels sad.
I have my mom but am missing my dad.
He died when I was five,
Because someone decided to drink and drive.
Someone picked up the cup,
And without knowing the consequences,
Drank it all up.
Then he got in his car,
And drove fast, too fast, away from the bar.
My father was coming, driving alone,
The day before Christmas, he was excited to get home.
Then on the bridge he stopped and panicked.
For there was someone in the other lane, and he got frantic.
This other car was swerving left to right,
Until soon Daddy lost all sight.
I wonder what it was like for my dad to be dying on that bridge.
I wonder how he felt when he heard the policeman say
The other driver would live.
So now I'm sitting here, as they call my name.
As a tear falls down my cheek,
I am wishing that Daddy could have came.
I walk up on the stage and begin to cry,
As the principal asks me why?
I tell him that my father couldn't make it,
And that I just can not take it.
I know my father is looking down,
My heart begins to pound.
Thinking of what he would say to me....
Positive thinking is the key.
I can hear his voice in my heart,
Don't cry for me, I know we are apart,
But be happy on this great day,
Everything is gonna be okay.
