Our Angel
By Christina Baker

In memory of my cousin Madonna
Died: December 29, 1995

You were inside with your mother,
After shopping all day long,
But your mom sensed something wasn't right,
She knew something was wrong.

You told her you were fine,
And you got up to leave,
How was your mother to know,
That tomorrow she would grieve?

You got in your car,
And then you pulled away,
Not knowing that this
Was your last day.

You got a little dizzy,
And ended up out cold,
You lost control of the car,
As it flew off the road.

All the people around were horrified,
As your car went off the cliff,
You went into eternity,
As the onlookers felt stiff.

No one helped you right away,
Your car was too far down,
And later that night I got a call,
"Your cousin has been found."

They told me you had died,
I thought it couldn't be true,
But then it finally did sink in,
That I actually did lose you.

Even though we were first cousins,
I didn't hear tell of you until I was six,
Which was on that tragic night,
It wasn't a good mix.

We were all at your funeral,
Shanondoah, Polly, Cheryl, too,
They all came for one last glance,
To see the angel which is you.

It's been six years already,
And now I have turned twelve,
The anniversary of your death
      went by 3 days ago,
And every year, it's like visiting hell.

We'll always remember,
And cherish too,
The beautiful shining star,
The angel, which is you.
