Dear Carrie
By Elisabeth Stevison
(Contact: SassaTee@aol.com)

Dear Carrie,
Were you excited that wonderful night,
Pulling on that long white Prom gown?

Did your daddy smile when he saw his little girl,
Now a beautiful woman?

Did your date whisper in your ear,
As he put a corsage on your wrist?

Were you the envy of all the girls;
With your face so pretty, your date so handsome?

Were you there, Carrie - When some kids got bored,
And started drinking?

Carrie, were you one of them?
Did you drink, just to fit in?

Did you try to stop your date,
When he got in the car?

When you swerved in front of that truck,
Were you scared? Were you crying?

And when it was all said and done,
Could you feel anything, lying on the ground?

At that moment,
Did you know you would never go home?

What's it like Carrie,
To die so young?
